    The informatics residency (PGY2) is a 12-month program designed to foster knowledge and appreciation for the potential advantages and limitations of new technology used to gather and disseminate information within the practice of pharmacy in a vertically and horizontally integrated health care system.

    Residents completing the program will gain experience with implementing pharmacy management objectives, drug-use policies, investigational services, pharmacy operations, clinical and decentralized pharmacy services and meeting financial goals through the use of technology.

    A competitive yearly stipend of $54,600 is paid to all residents and re-evaluated yearly; health, dental, and vision insurance plans are provided with other optional benefits. Residents receive two weeks of paid vacation and uninterrupted stipend during minor illness; any additional days of paid vacation may be cashed in at the end of the residency. Travel assistance is provided for required professional meetings and activities, if funding is available. Staffing requirements will be tailored towards the resident.

    Epic Willow Inpatient Accreditation one time costs are provided by Sentara if the resident obtains Epic Willow Inpatient Proficiency with 85% or greater in the first 3 months of residency.

    Applicants must be a Doctor of Pharmacy degree graduate of an accredited school or college of pharmacy, have completed a pharmacy practice residency (PGY1) or possess equivalent years clinical experience in pharmacy and the information technology field and be eligible for pharmacist licensure in Virginia. If accepted into the program, the individual must obtain a valid license to practice pharmacy in the State of Virginia. The successful applicant must possess exceptional knowledge, communication skills and leadership qualities.
